NOT EXACTLY AUTOMATIC

installed fine-supposed to be an automatic pump with float switch-have to jiggle the switch to turn on and then it will continue to run even with no water present. i am using it in an overflow ditch in my basement for washing machine, i have to go down to turn it on and then again down to lift the float so it will quit running. i will try to place it in a another area but i do not think that will help. i got it so i would NOT have to moniter the unit for on/off operations, so i am pretty disappointed in it at this time. but it does move alot of water quickly.

Great submersible pump

This is a very good product...i have a sceptic tank that frequently needs emptying...this is just as good as the truck that normally comes and we have to pay $85 per trip for them to empty...very good in dirty water...great prouct...sad that its discontinued

Not the best for permanent sump pump duty but excellent as back up

We recently had some near misses due to extreme rainfall in Northwest Indiana. Our dated sump pump, of the kind with battery backup, what slowly kicking it and we decided we needed to have the next one ready and waiting some the day it would croak.
Naturally, being a bargain hunter, I set out to find the cheapest possible solution. That, however, is not wise when dealing with potential water damage. We ordered this one given the HP listed, the dirty water cability and most importantly the price.

About this item
It looks like a common sump pump except that it seems slightly wider. Also, the 'floater' seems to have more leeway that with a normal run of the mill pump. It comes with a few extra adapters so you can hook it up easily. Our findings are that the floater tube is long and floats freely. The width of the pump is slightly more than that of our current battery backed pump which made it difficult to put in. Also, the connectors are in an 'odd' place so we had to get extra rubber pieces to make it connect.
The pump is loud when pumping out and seems to click on and off alot. Seems to be in the electric design of the floater unit. It does , however, handle dirty water well and the HP power is sufficient.

0 Long floater tube seems to switch off and on alot more than other pump
0 Lots of HP but still only 1800 gph? Probably due to handling particles?
0 Plasticky, not so sure it will last in continuous operation

Conclusion
I would not buy this as my only main sump pump. I would but this as a back up and use it with the hose connector in case I would need to pump a pond or so empty. The reason: it seems very plasticky. Not very high GPH either. Overall, though, given the price, I consider this better than the lowest grade Home Depot or Menards sold pumps (which DO NOT last more than 2 years). If more expensive I would ahve given this 3 stars nut given the 50$ I give this ****.
